XBOX Networking:

Once your XBOX has been modded, you will be able to connect it to other modded XBOX's, Computers, Hubs, Routers and other network equipment.

You will be able to access the internal hard drive, this opens the door to a whole new way to enjoy your modded XBOX

To connect a computer to your XBOX you will require some additional hardware, some of which you may already have. Firstly, you will need an Ethernet Network Card installed in your computer, you can purchase these from virtually any computer shop or outlet. You will need to install the card into your computer, and possibly some drivers. For this tutorial we will not get involved with the installation of the computer hardware and drivers as instructions for this should be provided when you purchase your network card.

It should be noted that the network card you buy MUST have the standard RJ45 connection socket on it (commonly known as Ethernet 10Base-T) this is the connection point used to connect to the XBOX.

You will also require a network cable to link your XBOX and computer, the length of this will depend on how far away your XBOX is from your computer. However, it should be noted that there are basically two types of network cable as described below.

Connecting XBOX Direct to Computer
To connect your XBOX directly to your computer or to another XBOX you will requre a network cable known as a "Crossover Cable" basically what this means is that the wires inside the network cable connect to different pins on the two plugs. Obviously the best way is to purchase a pre-made crossover cable or adaptor, however, if you want to know which wires actually cross then this will help.

Cat 5 cables are usually colour coded as shown below:

Pin/Wire 1 = White with orange stripes
Pin/Wire 2 = Orange
Pin/Wire 3 = White with Green stripes
Pin/Wire 4 = Blue
Pin/Wire 5 = White with Blue stripes
Pin/Wire 6 = Green
Pin/Wire 7 = White with Brown stripes
Pin/Wire 8 = Brown

We are only interested in Pins/Wires 1, 2, 3 and 6 as these wires cross hence a crossover cable.

Pin 2 ---> Pin 6
Pin 3 ---> Pin 1
Pin 6 ---> Pin 2
Pin 4 ---> Pin 4
Pin 5 ---> Pin 5
Pin 7 ---> Pin 7
Pin 8 ---> Pin 8

Connecting XBOX via a Hub to Computer
To connect your XBOX via a hub to your computer or to another XBOX you will require a network cable known as a "Standard Patch Cable" basically what this means is that the wires inside the network cable connect to the same pins on the two plugs. Obviously the best way is to purchase a pre-made standard patch cable or adaptor, however if you want to know which wires actually link then this will help.

10Base-T Standard Patch Cable

Pin 2 ---> Pin 2
Pin 3 ---> Pin 3
Pin 4 ---> Pin 4
Pin 5 ---> Pin 5

Please ensure you are using the correct cable for your XBOX network.
