Installing Blue/Red Eject Button Led's
OK, so you have purchased ultra cool, ultra vibrant, Blue/Red LED's from us but want to know how to install them, the first thing you will need is some tools, you will require:
You will first need to gain access to the inside of the XBOX, to do this turn the XBOX upside down, there are 6 torx T20 screws that hold the box together, 4 of these are under the rubber feet, carefully lift the far edges to reveal the screws. You do not need to remove the feet as shown in the picture, we only removed these for this example picture. There are also 2 screws hidden under the labels, for this example we have just punched holes straight through them so you can see exactly where they are. Remove all the screws and carefully turn the box back onto its feet and remove the lid.
Once the lid has been taken off you will need to move the IDE cable back as shown, this will reveal a hidden torx T10 screw, undo this screw, next you will need to remove the 2 torx T10 screws located at the front left and front right hand side of the DVD drive. You will then be able to remove the IDE cable and power cable from both the hard disk and DVD Rom drive, and completely lift them out.
You will now see a yellow cable which is almost hidden by the main power supply cable and plugs into a header on the main board, it connects to the LED's power and reset button on the front of the XBOX, you need to unplug this.
Using a very wide flat bladed screwdriver, carefully push it into the position as shown below, there are 3 little plastic clips that hold the front panel in place.
Carefully pull the screwdriver handle inwards and then push it outwards so that the 3 little plastic clips release the front panel.
With your finger just lift the little plastic clip in the centre and the front panel will simply pull away.
Use your finger nail or a small flat bladed screwdriver and just push in the little plastic clip in the centre at the bottom and the power eject LED circuit board will simply pull out, from the bottom first.
Locate the 3 solder connections on the back of the LED's on the circuit board and with some wire cutters cut the pins down as low as you can. We would recommend that you only use desoldering braid to remove the solder from these connections, because by using a solder pump, you are quite likely to suck up the pad and trace. Place a little bit of the desoldering braid over one of the pins and then carefully push the soldering iron tip into the desoldering braid so that the solder is soaked up by the desoldering braid, check to see the pin is clear of solder, if not repeat with a fresh bit of desoldering braid until the pin is clear.
Repeat with the remaining pins until you are able to remove the old LED.
You will note the LED's have a flat side and on the board you will also notice a small image showing an LED with one side flat, it is important you get the flat sides to match, otherwise, when you switch on your xbox your eject button LED will be Red and will only show the Blue on errors. With a small set of pliars, bend the LED's legs to match that of the LED you just removed and push the LED into place.
Now carefully solder the 3 legs and with some wire cutters, cut away the excess wire from the legs of the LED, when done repeat the process on the LED on the otherside of the circuit board.
Now may be a good idea to quickly test the circuit board LED's, by temporarily connecting the plug back into the header on the main board, with the HDD and DVD rom drive still disconnected, switch on your xbox, this will cause an error. Both LED's should light up Blue, then when your xbox displays an error because the HDD and DVD rom drive's are not detected, the LED's should flash between Blue and Red continuously. If it does this then you have successfully installed your LED's.
